CCS Metnet 60G FWA solution helps Talk Straight bridge rural digital divide

High-growth UK ISP Talk Straight is leveraging CCS’s MetNet 60G solution to deliver ultra-fast broadband to homes in West Yorkshire – and creating a new path to gigabit broadband connectivity in rural regions nationwide. The fast-expanding internet service provider successfully trialled CCS’s mmWave fixed wireless access solution as part of a proof of concept to quickly and cost-effectively extend gigabit symmetric broadband services beyond the reach of existing fibre networks. This landmark residential house estate project has transformed digital connectivity across the community, and paved a new route to revenue for Talk Straight – from which it has plans to expand to reach more locations in the UK.

The challenge: poor, unreliable broadband service

The residents of the Garnett Wharfe housing estate in Otley, West Yorkshire, had long suffered from poor, unreliable internet access. ISP Talk Straight Limited was brought in with the challenge of deploying ultra-fast broadband to homes across the estate and improving their broadband speed, which was well below the national average.

Ofcom, the UK’s communications regulator, estimates that 190,000 properties across the UK still cannot access an acceptable broadband connection and more than 880,000 children live in a UK household with only a mobile internet connection. During the pandemic, this widening digital divide was brought into even sharper

focus, highlighting the urgent need to ensure broadband connectivity across every community.

The solution: easy to deploy, ultra-fast Fixed Wireless Access

ISP Talk Straight, which built its expertise primarily providing internet and communications solutions to schools across the country, successfully deployed a proof of concept using CCS’s Metnet 60GHz mesh fixed wireless network. The CCS Metnet FWA solution was able to cost-effectively extend broadband to the Garnett Wharfe estate – a community of 250 properties where many homes had historically lacked access to high-capacity broadband. Built on the industry’s first self-organising, 60GHz mmWave fixed wireless technology, Talk Straight harnessed CCS’s solution to deliver a fixed wireless multi-gigabit network that is powerful enough to support residential, campus, smart city and business customers.

“At-home connectivity demands continue to increase. We still need to get rural residents and students on a level broadband playing field,” comments David Tindall, CEO at Talk Straight. “The MetNet 60G solution is very easy to install and offered speed and ease of deployment. As a result, we have the confidence we need to build a business case for expanding this deployment to more residents and businesses that need a better option for high-speed broadband.”
