NEWS: CCS Metnet enables first Central London Hotspot 2.0 Wi-Fi network
CCS’s Metnet 60G system is the backbone of a new public Wi-Fi service now available in Trafalgar Square, offering enhanced connectivity in one of London’s busiest areas. Delivered by CCS’s partner – innovative wireless infrastructure provider Ontix – the outdoor Wi-Fi service runs alongside its existing small cell wireless network.
Initially covering lampposts with high-speed backhaul in the bustling tourist area of Trafalgar Square, the outdoor Wi-Fi service comprises 17 Ruckus Wi-Fi access points, with ultra–high capacity connectivity delivered by CCS Metnet 60G 12Gbps Multipoint nodes. The new network is being trialled now by a major international operator and more global and UK operators are expected to take advantage of the network to provide their mobile subscribers with Wi-Fi roaming and the benefit of free VOIP calls. The Hotspot 2.0 networking standard will allow their overseas subscribers to auto-attach to the Ontix network using the mobile operator’s profile. A Wi-Fi roaming service is also provided by Global Reach to enable international and UK cellular operators to connect to the network.
WHITEPAPER: Fixed Wireless Access mmWave mesh
Our global partner ADTRAN has produced a comprehensive whitepaper on the revenue opportunities, cost benefits and technology advantages of deploying Fixed Wireless Access mmWave mesh systems for a range of fibre extension applications. CCS Partner IDT expands RapidWave portfolio
Our partner IDT (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.) has expanded its RapidWave portfolio for Customer Premise Equipment targeting the Fixed Wireless Access Market. With the launch of the RWM6051 – a mmWave modem for customer premise equipment targeted for 5G fixed wireless networks – IDT is offering wireless broadband service providers an ultra-wideband spectrum of 14 GHz V-band from 57 to 71GHz, to simplify and accelerate network deployments. The new modem is fully compatible with the TRX-BF01 transceiver from CCS partner Sivers IMA, meaning that deploying a high-capacity fixed wireless network utilising 14 GHz of spectrum is now easier than ever.
“The combined chipset solution with Sivers IMA TRX-BF01 transceiver RFIC and IDT’s RapidWave product delivers state-of-the-art performance and is the only 60 GHz solution covering the entire 14 GHz band targeted for license free 5G infrastructure applications,” comments Anders Storm, CEO of Sivers IMA.
NEWS: Wireless broadband trial in rural trial hits gigabit speeds
CCS’s Metnet 60G mesh technology is delivering gigabit class broadband speeds for residents in the tiny rural Monmouthshire village of Llanddewi Rhydderch in Wales. CCS partner UK ISP Broadway Partners reported towards the end of last year that all homes within their local pilot network coverage are able to benefit from a 1Gbps-capable ultra-fast broadband connection.
The trial is part of the Government’s wider 5G Rural Integrated Testbed (5GRIT) project to turn Llanddewi Rhydderch into a “Gigabit Community” by lighting up “this forgotten village with broadband speeds of up to 1,000Mbps.”
Barry Weaver, Operations Director at Broadway Partners, said: “We believe that Gigabit connectivity by 2025 is achievable through the right mix of technology, know-how and some positive energy. The 5G pilot in Monmouthshire proved that Gigabit services can be delivered to communities at a very quick speed. We are in the process of replicating this all over the country.”
NEWS: CCS powers Fixed Wireless Access gigabit broadband in Soho
CCS’s Metnet 60G 12Gbps unlicensed mmWave backhaul and access system is powering a flagship gigabit broadband service now live in London’s Soho – delivering speeds of up to 1Gbps.
The Fixed Wireless Access solution – deployed by next-generation wireless Infrastructure-as-a-Service provider Ontix with CCS’s mmWave 60G nodes providing ultra-high performance connectivity – is now live and delivering ultra-fast connectivity to a key urban hotspot in Soho’s Berwick Street market.
Antony Tomlinson, Chief Executive of Ontix comments: “We are incredibly excited to be rolling out fibre-like, gigabit broadband in central London, connecting areas where fibre deployment has been economically challenging, and finally ending the frustration of underserved customers.”
COMMENTARY: Europe opens up 60GHz mmWave for Gigabit FWA
CCS welcomes the release last year of CEPT ECC recommendations that pave way for ubiquitous deployment of unlicensed 60GHz technology – including the EU Type-approved CCS Metnet 60G mmWave solution.
INDUSTRY: CCS working with INCA
CCS is now a member of INCA - the Independent Networks Cooperative Association – with a mission to help UK alternative network providers (altnets) deliver virtual fibre using Gigabit mmWave FWA.
