CCS to highlight Metnet 60GHz 5G-Enabled Innovation at IBC Amsterdam

CCS will be highlighting the role of our Metnet 60GHz mmWave solution in delivering 5G-enabled Smart Tourism from 13th - 17th September at IBC 2019 in Amsterdam - the world's most influential media, entertainment and technology show. Together with our 5G Smart Tourism project partners University of Bristol, Zeetta Networks and BBC R&D, we will be showcasing the team's immersive "5G-enabled Tourism Experience" in the Media and Telecoms Catalyst Zone in Hall 9. CCS's Head of Product David Turner will be on hand at the show to meet with delegates, and to highlight the high-capacity performance and wide applicability of CCS's Metnet 60G 12Gbps unlicensed mmWave backhaul and access system - optimised for both existing mobile operators and new entrants looking to harness the potential of the unlicensed spectrum opportunity.

Delegates at IBC 2019 will have the opportunity to see an exclusive live demonstration of the augmented reality (AR) application developed by BBC R&D and Aardman Animations as part of the UK government's cutting-edge 5G Trials and Testbed Smart Tourism project. The immersive AR application has received wide industry coverage for its landmark 5G Smart Tourism capabilities, enabling visitors to use their smartphones to visualise the World Heritage Roman Baths in the City of Bath through various stages in history. The demonstration will run over a simulated 5G network delivered by University of Bristol, CCS and Zeetta Networks.

ICB 2019 can also experience a demonstration of 360-degree view high-definition media streaming - delivered by University of Bristol, CCS, Mativision and Zeetta Networks - which was recently deployed at the Bristol Harbour Festival to enhance accessibility and the overall experience for the festival's 250k visitors.

The success of the UK government-backed 5G Smart Tourism project has seen it extended to investigate commercial scalability plus exploration of the behaviour of 5G wireless in the hyper-congested networks found at concerts, sporting and cultural events. CCS's innovative work in this testbed, together with its project partners, is demonstrating the innovative uses of the new 57-71GHz unlicensed band, and highlighting the huge potential for the 14GHz of spectrum – recently opened up by Ofcom – for enabling the delivery of ubiquitous high-speed connectivity through gigabit 5G Fixed Wireless Access services.

Metnet from CCS is the world’s only self-organising 5G mmWave mesh backhaul. Delivering high capacity, ultra-low latency and ultra-fast deployment, Metnet is optimised for performance edge and evolving multi-gigabit capacity, and is currently powering networks to mmWave 5G performance in major live deployments across the world. Metnet offers its unique SON multipoint solution in the 24/26/28GHz area based licensed bands, plus its new Metnet 60G mmWave access and backhaul system in the unlicensed mmWave band, using Metnet 3D SON for frequency agility and interference management.
