David Cleevely CBE FREng
David is a well-known telecoms entrepreneur and industry expert, and has advised most of the major telecom companies in the world. He is currently a member of the board of directors to CCS, CRFS (Chairman), Ionscope (Chairman), Neul, Raspberry Pi and Controllis. In 2009, he was appointed the Founding Director and Executive Committee Member of the Centre for Science and Policy, University of Cambridge.
As co-founder of Cambridge Angels, David has invested in 40 telecommunications, IT and biotech start-ups in the Cambridge area. He also co-founded Cambridge Network and Cambridge Wireless and remains a prime mover within these organisations today.
His previous ventures include 3WayNetworks, a 3G pico base station company, which he co-founded in 2004 and sold to Airvana in 2007; the biotech company Abcam, which he co-founded in 1998 and served as Chairman until 2009. And in 1985, he founded the telecom consulting company Analysys, which was subsequently acquired by Datatec in 2004.
David has also been a member of the Ofcom Spectrum Advisory board. He studied Cybernetics at Reading University, holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and is a Fellow of both the Royal Academy of Engineering and the IET.
